چکیده

91 The inherent complexity of crop production systems requires integrating many factors to ensure maximum crop yields with the least risk to the environment. Assessing presentand reserved-nutrient status of the soil, understanding its nutrient-release and nutrient-holding capacity, and knowing the plant and environmental factors that impact nutrient availability are necessary to guide fertilization rates, sources, and method of application of additional nutrients. The information here is intended to provide fundamental principles to help the reader understand what to do, and why, when making management decisions related to phosphorus (P), potassium (K), secondary macronutrients (calcium [Ca], magnesium [Mg], and sulfur [S]), micronutrients (boron [B], chlorine [Cl], copper [Cu], iron [Fe], manganese [Mn], molybdenum [Mo], and zinc [Zn]), and pH.

Dryland soil chemical properties and crop yields affected by long-term tillage and cropping sequence

Information on the effect of long-term management on soil nutrients and chemical properties is scanty. We examined the 30-year effect of tillage frequency and cropping sequence combination on dryland soil Olsen-P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, SO4-S, and Zn concentrations, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and cation exchange capacity (CEC) at the 0-120 cm depth and annualized crop yield in the northern Great...

Multimodal probe based on ISFET electrochemical microsensors for in-situ monitoring of soil nutrients in agriculture

We report the design of a silicon chip dedicated to the in-situ monitoring of soil nitrogen cycle in wheat crop. Our study shows that ion-sensitive field effect transistor (ISFET) microsensors are suitable for quick on-site or long-term analysis of nutrients measured directly in soil as opposed to soil extracts analysis. Our pH-ISFET recorded soil pH for six months with results in good accordan...

Impact of Distillery Wastewater Irrigation on Chemical Properties of Agriculture Soil

The utilization of treated agro-industrial effluents has been recommended as sound option for agriculture irrigations practices and sustainable land management programme. This paper presents the impact of utilizing treated effluent form a distillery industry on physico-chemical properties of soils in an agriculture plot. The effluent was applied in 50 and 100% strength and a control plot receiv...

Opposing effects of different soil organic matter fractions on crop yields.

Soil organic matter is critical to sustainable agriculture because it provides nutrients to crops as it decomposes and increases nutrient- and water-holding capacity when built up. Fast- and slow-cycling fractions of soil organic matter can have different impacts on crop production because fast-cycling fractions rapidly release nutrients for short-term plant growth and slow-cycling fractions bi...
